R/18 Roundtable on Messiah/Complex
Updated: Apr 1
UPDATE: you can now see a recording of the event on our YouTube channel here. And as an added bonus, Against the Grain Theatre has made Messiah/Complex free to the public once again from April 1-13; register here to see it again.
The R/18 Collective focuses on how the 18th-century repertoire bears on our contemporary moment. Join us for an on-line Roundtable to explore Against the Grain Theatre’s highly acclaimed production of Messiah/Complex with members of the company and scholars specializing in theatre, music, and Indigeneity in the eighteenth-century. Messiah/Complex transforms Handel’s oratorio into a complex meditation on Indigenous communities’ situated knowledge and critique. With urgency and beauty, Against the Grain Theatre has altered our understanding of the present and its relation to the past so as to imagine the future otherwise.
